Dimitra Georganopoulou, PhD
Director of Commercialization Innovation and New Ventures Office Northwestern University
Dimitra Georganopoulou is the Director of Commercialization at Northwestern’s INVO, with a goal to shape and prioritize the University’s IP assets for customized resourcing, enhancing their value and leading to their successful commercialization. She is an experienced professional in the MedTech Sector, with 18 years expertise in medical devices, diagnostics, Health IT, companion diagnostics and personalized medicine projects within start-up environments. Dimitra also acts as a liaison of the office and actively pursues Business Development opportunities for inventors, which range from start-up ventures to strategic partnerships and collaborations.
Prior to joining Northwestern, Dimitra was the VP of R&D and Director of Quality and Regulatory affairs of Ohmx Corporation, a diagnostic company with novel POC (point-of-care) and biomarker technologies. Dimitra also worked for Nanosphere (now Luminex) and Inverness Medical (now Alere) for biosensor development.
Dimitra is the Chair Elect of the Chicago AACC (American Associate of Clinical Chemistry), and she sits on the board of Women in BIO, the AHA’s Heart Innovation Forum - Executive Leadership Team and is part of Springboard’s Executive Alum committee. She is also an active contributor to the local tech and life sciences community by participating in assessment and promoting entrepreneurship ventures and programs.
Dimitra earned a Ph.D. in Bioelectrochemistry from University College London (UCL), an M.Sc. in Biosensors from King’s College London, and a B.S. in from University of Thessaloniki, Greece. Her post-doctoral work at UNC and her research at Northwestern focused on nanoparticle based diagnostics. She is the author of numerous peer-reviewed publications and patents.
