Suguna Rachakonda, PhD, MBA is the Senior Director, Product Development, Therapeutics, responsible for scouting and evaluating, and providing product development support for therapeutic innovations, supporting innovators from NCAI-CC’s partner institutions. She has been working with innovators and the entrepreneurial ecosystem to catalyze and support the translation of early-stage science and technology into valuable solutions for patients across the pharma and diagnostic sectors. She has 20 years of experience in R&D of small molecule therapeutics from lead identification to IND filing. Her industry experience includes a brief stint at United Therapeutics working on the discovery and development of pulmonary hypertension drugs. She spent ten years at Pharmasset Inc. (acquired by Gilead Sciences) and held positions of increasing responsibility in research and development. Suguna has directly contributed to the discovery and development of the marketed Hepatitis C drug Sovaldi®. She was a member of the team responsible for advancing four new chemical entities across therapeutic areas. She published over 30-peer reviewed papers and is an inventor on 14 issued US patents and numerous international filings. Prior to joining CCI, Suguna was Director of Technology Commercialization at Kent State University, leading all aspects of innovation management and commercialization.
Suguna received a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Hyderabad, India. Subsequently, she was a post-doctoral fellow working on developing nanostructured materials at Tulane University. She received an MBA in Finance from Stern School of Business, New York University.
