James Ellis, JD, MBA, is the Executive Director of Research Alliances and Technology Development for the Lerner Research Institute. He is a licensed attorney in Ohio and a CPA (currently inactive). He has served as the Finance Manager and Institution Administrator the Lerner Research Institute. During his tenure, Lerner never missed budget and has continued to be a great place to work. He helped to develop the Research Communications, Compliance, Trainee Development, and Fund Development Offices. He served on many teams and committees to build programs like the Research Centers of Excellence which focuses on Team Science, and to implement Care Affordability efforts, in which we the Research Institute emerged a leaner, more efficient and productive research organization with funding in 2016 exceeding all previous records. He helped to oversee many construction projects including the Barrier Mouse Facility, Pre-clinical MRI facility, and the Metabolomics Facility. Jim focuses his efforts on improving inventor engagement, identifying and enabling external and internal funding sources to support early stage innovations, improving Faculty recognition for tech transfer and commercialization efforts, and encouraging early stage innovation. His experience in law, business, and healthcare and research administration positions him to accelerate fundamental discoveries into the innovation pipeline
